At the end of the 19th century, an influential man diplomatically defended the city of Curitiba against the action of revolutionaries in the south of Brazil to depose the country's president.

Cosmopolitan and provincial, Curitiba can be a good synthesis of conflicts. Through the stories of four characters who don't know each other but whose fates are intertwined—a car dealer, a motorcycle courier, a bus driver, and a paper collector—the film chronicles the daily struggle for survival.

The film shows the day when Rui and Vani first met. It was at their wedding (with other partners). Vani was going to marry Sérgio, and Rui would marry Marta in the same church, following Vani's marriage. While waiting for the ceremony, they begin to talk. Complications ensue.
