Mayara, Fernanda and Rosa, three young people from wealthy families, leave their cities in the interior and settle in São Paulo. They fall into a life of prostitution but eventually fall in love. Their families are worried about their disappearance, although they find them when they appear on a TV show.

Elisa is a journalist who becomes romantically involved with Hugo, a director of the company Jota Mineração, when she receives an order to write a story about the company. However, the relationship between the two begins to destabilize when the company that Hugo runs begins to extract gold from indigenous lands.

The soap opera told the story of Fernando Dalba, or Nando, a fruit vendor who works with his mother, the Baroness, and his friends Gino and Guiomar. His life changes after he meets the wealthy widow Cristina Guimarães, owner of a beauty salon, who decides to teach him how to behave like a man of high society. Cristina's intention is to win a bet, but she falls in love with Nando, who is engaged to Candinha.

The plot unfolds across two distinct worlds: Dr. Cristiano Navarro’s hospital and an impoverished neighborhood on the outskirts of São Paulo. While doctors at the hospital fight to save lives using state-of-the-art medical technology, young Emanuel—living in the neighborhood—demonstrates the ability to perform miraculous, extraordinary healings with just the touch of his hands. Dr. Cristiano is married to Linda, a wealthy, refined woman twenty years his junior. They long for a child but have been unable to conceive. Linda consults Dr. Paula, a renowned gynecologist, but the doctor cannot resolve their issue. Linda then decides to seek help from Emanuel, sparking a series of conflicts with her husband. However, things are far from ideal in Emanuel’s neighborhood. He possesses paranormal abilities that sometimes manifest in ways beyond his control. An enigmatic and unpredictable man, Emanuel fears his own powers.

The story, inspired by Harriet Beecher Stowe's novel of the same name – which fueled the abolitionist movement in the United States – depicts the conflict between enslaved American cotton planters and wealthy landowners in the South. The fight for freedom is led by Uncle Tom and his wife Chloe.
