When Lo's younger brother Lo hears about the incident, he leaves his Buddhist master to investigate the truth. His trail soon leads him to the Castle of Death, the last place Chin Ku was seen alive. There, he meets and befriends an unlikely ally--a cruel and merciless martial arts expert who is also the tower's master. But when the master dies under mysterious circumstances, Lo ends up dueling with someone far more terrifying.

The Lung (Dragon) triad used to be one of Hong Kong's most powerful crime families, but its power has waned in recent years. The crime boss Lung Ying feels that their involvement in drug trafficking has resulted in costs that far outweigh the benefits, and he considers investing his wealth into relatively safe and legal industries. His second-in-command White Wolf and his frequent collaborator Tsui disagree with his anti-drug policies, and they plot to take over the triad. They assassinate Lung Ying, and they execute most members of the Lung family in a brutal massacre. Three members of the family survive the attack, and they start plotting their own brutal revenge. White Wolf is betrayed and assassinated by Tsui shortly after claiming power. Tsui is quite willing to kill or sacrifice all for his subordinates to secure power, but he might be weakening his own organization due to this mentality.

In 1937 Shanghai, a soldier and a young woman have an awkward meet-cute in darkness under a bridge as they seek refuge during a bomb raid. Ten years later, the soldier, now a burgeoning songwriter and tuba-player in a marching band, is back in town desperately searching for his would-be soulmate. As fate would have it they end up living in the same building unbeknownst to each other. Through a series of mishaps, he mistakes her new ingénue roommate for his love interest and wacky love triangle hijinks ensue.
