The film begins when a stranger arrives in town. He takes quickly to his former mistress, Denise, who is happily married to John, and has an affair with his identiske twin brother Peter. They plan together to drive John crazy. After unsuccessful attempts to blackmail the couple receive the stranger, Gert, to help them with their evil plan.

In 16th century Rome, Rampín, a friendly and shameless rogue, exploits his arts of deception. He lives with his aunt, Napolitana, a pimp dedicated to the same trades as his nephew. With the arrival of a beautiful Andalusian, Lozana, her fortune enters their house by making her the most beautiful courtesan in Rome. Lozana and Rampín reach an agreement: he will be at her service, taking her lovers home, and she will treat him like a king and give him the best, something that others will never have. But one fine day, Don Sancho, a handsome Spaniard, falls in love with her.

In a small rural town, everybody lays eyes on Maruja, the most beautiful woman there. After the son of the mayor comes back from France, he also notices Maruja, setting forth events of love, jealousy, guilt, and anger.

Follows the life of a loving couple that is childless. Juana consults help from many sources so she can conceive, but to no avail. However, her husband Manolo has an illegitimate son by a prostitute. He hopes to raise him as their mutual son, but the boy's arrival marks a profound change in the couple's life, as Juana struggles with her relationship with the child and her husband.
