The bittersweet events in the lives of people in Hakodate, a regional city connected by a streetcar network. KAZOKU NO KUNI tells the story of one of their number, who returns for just a short period. In her documentaries DEAR PYONGYANG and SONA, THE OTHER MYSELF, Yang Yonghi told the story of her own life, and how, at age six, she experienced the departure of her three older brothers, who left their family for Pyongyang.

The story, set in the heady post-war 50s into the early 60s , revolves around a love triangle between Tomoko, long playing the mistress to married older writer Shitto and the new stud who comes into her life, Ryota Kinoshita. Tomoko is sick and tired of her relationship with writer Shingo, who is married and has children. Shingo is a talented writer, but has yet to be recognized by the public. Tomoko then enters into a sexual relationship with younger man Ryota Kinoshita, but Tomoko is not satisfied.

Haru works at a part-time job for a bookstore. Her dream is to become an illustrator and she also loves cats. One day, after a cat named Chibutomu disappears from the bookstore Haru canvasses the neighbourhood in search of Chibutomu.

Set in 1945 at the end of World War II. Saku arrives on Kakeromajima as the head of navy special forces. He is admired by the children on the island and he is interested in learning the island song as well as drinking with his men. Toe is an elementary school teacher on Kakeromajima and she has feelings for Saku.

Hana's boyfriend Shoichiro suddenly leaves her, and now she is in a relationship with Akatsuki, Shoichiro's best friend. Hana keeps waiting for Shoichiro while feeling the sea breeze and the back of the man who left her.

Momo and Todo are two strangers who meet in a small bar, and walk hand in hand while singing a children's song. They end up having sex and sleeping outside. As they wake up the next morning, Todo compares their situation to a "michiyuki", a lovers' elopement that ends in a double suicide. Both struggling with a painful past, they start to make their way towards the sea, not really sure whether they want to live or die.

Yumi is a victim when the triple disaster of an earthquake, tsunami and nuclear meltdown occur in Japan of 2011. She is a guest of her aunt now. She finds a job at a local bar and works under the owner Sugiya, a man who has amnesia and barely recalls anything except his recipes. The two begin to develop feelings for one another.

The third installment in the "Landscape of lovers who are not anyone" series directed by Michio Koshikawa, which depicts men and women passing each other and attracting each other. Sugi-chan, Saki's husband and painter, collapsed a few years ago and her left half of her body was stuck, and she is no longer painting at all. One day, Sugi-chan said she wanted to draw Saki's nude. While supporting her working life at her late-night family restaurant, Sugi-chan was delighted that she wanted Sugi-chan to draw again, but she couldn't live without relying on Sugi-chan. I was feeling annoyed. The bodies and minds of two people passing each other. On the day when a big crack was born between the two, Saki is connected with his family colleague Yukio. Aika Yukihira and Sugi-chan, who play the role of Saki in "Be My Slave, Chapter 2 Please Call Me Your Master," act as an actor on the stage while having paralysis on her left side. Tadatoshi Ogita plays each.

Terako is a young woman without a job. She has an affair with Iwanaga who is married. His wife is in a coma. One day, Terako's friend kills herself. After that, Terako sleeps all day long and wakes up only when Iwanaga calls her.

Little Towa lives with his parents Satsuki and Yuichi in a coastal town on Nagashima. Yuichi is a fisherman, Satsuki runs a restaurant. What Towa doesn’t know is that he is adopted. As a baby, he was abandoned in an internet café, completely emaciated. While his new parents are secretly fighting for custody of him and want to protect him from his past, the family’s happiness begins to falter. Satsuki and Yuichi aren’t the only ones who are worried about Towa’s future.

'We have to kill him', the wife and her lover thought. When three childhood friends reunite, it doesn't take long before two of them feel the woman's husband is in their way. They push him into a lake, but the boat capsizes and all three are thrown into the water. The lovers reach the shore, but the husband is nowhere. Has he drowned? They decide to wait at a lakeside hotel for his body to be found.

Because of this, Taichi loses his job and he also loses his place. On the day his father is cremated, Taichi meets Tsukiko who is mentally handicapped. Tsukiko has run away from a facility.

The Fourth Industrial Revolution has led to the development of cutting-edge technologies that have rapidly evolved the world. As a result, schools have begun incorporating these technologies into their curriculum, leaving behind the ways of the old. One such institution is the elite Yuyu Girls' Vocational High School, where both Serufu Yua and her childhood friend, Miku "Purin" Suride, have applied. Although the tech-savvy Purin is accepted to Yuyu High, the accident-prone Serufu is rejected and enters the traditional Gatagata Girls' High School instead, driving a wedge into their friendship.
