Three poor friends hope to achieve something good in their lives. One day they meet three girls. They pretend to be rich and go out with them. When they learn the truth, the girls want to move away, but a rich Greek man from abroad, who is looking for a bride to marry, comes to Greece and decides to help the situation.

Alekos' father (Pantelis Zervos) on the other hand insists that Alekos' sister (Zoe Laskari) has to get married before him. His sister Annoula (Zoe Laskari) is in love with Antonis (Stephanos Stratigos) and pressures him to ask for her hand in marriage from her family. Antonis meets Alekos by accident at a cafe in Panorama - they don't know each other - and advises him to use the infalible method of "escaping through an engagement" to calm down Voula's brother. This is after all what he intends to do himself... And God help them...

The plain of Thessaly, 1910. The tenant farmers suffer untold hardships, both from the Arvanites invaders who ravage and seize their possessions and from the chief landlord of the area Stratos Karatzas, who claims the lion’s share of their harvest. The dynamic daughter of one of the tenant farmers, Maya, who is about to get married to a young farmer, Lefteris, leads their struggle for better conditions and confronts Karatzas – as well as his niece Vgenio, who also wants Lefteris. The latter plots and succeeds to separate them. Lefteris leaves for the army and Karatzas persuades Maya to marry him. Lefteris is captured during an ambush set by the Turks, but in the end he is set free and returns to Maya’s arms forever.

Charilaos (Orestis Makris), a retired officer with very strict and conservative principles, raises his four daughters with... military discipline, taking care of their culture, their appearance and their good behavior. Despite all his desire to marry them, he does not leave them anywhere alone, as a result of which no man approaches them. His wife, Efterpi (Eleni Zafiriou), as well as his friend and neighbor Xenophon (Pantelis Zervos), make remarkable efforts to convince him to change his tactics, but he insists on his very conservative behavior. But when the conversation reaches the well-to-do sister of Kalliopis (Georgia Vassiliadou) who has been living in Chicago, USA for years, everything turns upside down. She returns to Athens and undertakes to modernize the general's house, as well as help the four girls (and her nieces) to be rehabilitated.
