Slovakia, on the eve of the outbreak of World War II. The family of the young Jewish Martin Friedmann gathers to celebrate his bar mitzvah and make a solemn promise that they will all meet again a year later around the same table; but the storms of war and anti-Semitic fanaticism will lead each of them down very different paths.

They could not be more different – Cuky is a wannabe blogger, Luky a star desperate for love. The latter can get the man of her dreams only if she turns an ordinary girl into a beauty pageant queen. The catch is that the ordinary girl is Cuky.

Their stories and lives are different, packed with diverse joys, woes and secrets – secrets that often lead to agitated or humorous moments. Even though each of our characters will soon celebrate their fortieth birthday, they find themselves at diverse stages of life. As we are introduced to them, Christmas is just around the corner, and so is the beginning of a new year, a year which will see their stories become intertwined more than ever before.

Indian Summer has arrived. Amid the excitement and hustle, Daddy Webster gets sick from the rush and can't spin silk. He must rest. By evening, the family gathers at the festive table and recalls their best adventures of the year.
