Brandon, a surveyor, dreams of building a railway to the west. He sets off with his son, Davy, to survey a route. Cisco and Gordito arrive to find there is an outlaw operating in the area who is assumed to be the Cisco Kid. When a reward is offered for his capture and a large shipment of money goes out, Cisco is on hand. Seeing the gang rob the stage he goes after them only to be wounded. The gang leader leaves Cisco's handkerchief at the scene and now he is wanted for the murder he tried to break up.

Pa is becoming increasingly crotchety, and has been crabby with Tom and with everyone else on the ranch. After thinking it over, Bill suggests an unusual contest to see which one gets to ask Vera to marry him.

For his efforts, Bob is arrested and found guilty of defrauding the stock holders, and also charged with being notorious outlaw Pat Duncan. After several adventures, Bob succeeds in capturing the real Duncan, vindicates himself of the charges and wins Betty for his bride.
