The tragic love story between Guido, the owner of a marble quarry and Luisa, the humble daughter of one of his employees, ends up in her giving birth to their baby boy. Giulio's mother is against them: first she sends her son abroad and then has the baby kidnapped, making Luisa think the boy died in a fire.

In 1921, Titanus released a three-part serial based on a popular Italian novel from the turn of the 20th century: Nobody’s Children by Ruggero Rindi. The tale of lovers thwarted by class differences, of illegitimate children and parental recognition denied was a major success for producer Gustavo Lombardo and leading lady Leda Gys.

A young woman who has been seduced and abandoned is led to believe by her former in-laws that their son, whom they sent to an orphanage, is dead. She takes her vows and returns to her homeland after years of missionary work. She learns that her former lover has been killed in a duel and barely has time to see her dying son before he passes away.
