A Russian war correspondent is drafted into the war and finds himself in the middle of battle. When he loses his party card, however, he is treated as a deserter until he finds help from a kind man.

Timid old woman Pelageya Nilovna observes the revolutionary activities of her son Pavel Vlasov and gradually comes to realize that his cause is a great and noble one. She involves herself in the movement and finds joy and great courage in her new life as a revolutionary.

Soviet filmmaker Yuri Raisman once more combines political dogma with solid entertainment values in Dream of a Cossack (aka Cavalier of the Golden Star). The title character, played by future director Sergei Bondarchuk (and billed for obscure reasons as Semyon Bondarchuk), is an ex-soldier who returns home to the Kuban region, there to take up life as a farmer. Instead, he galvanizes the local citizenry into participating in a massive construction project, which will result in a new power station and canal. Thus does Raisman offer an prime example of Russian collectivism while making it seem as though it had sprung from individual initiative. Dream of a Cossack is based on a popular novel by S. Babayefsky.

Immediately after their wedding, a young family of archaeologists comes to Central Asia for excavations. The plague epidemic that broke out there separates the newlyweds for a while and forces the girl's mother to turn to her ex-husband for help.

On a stopover in Moscow, a young writer Volodya makes friends with Kolya, who is returning home from a hard night shift. Just as Kolya is about to take a rest, he is met by his old friend Sasha, who wants help getting a deferral from military service so that he can get married.

The heroine of the film is a young attractive woman whose motto is “you need to become depraved to feel like a saint.” She is convinced that men who love her should easily accept her for who she is. But it only causes them pain...

The film consists of three novellas that tell about the happy and joyful lives of Soviet children.

A third part of story about a Soviet spies trying to infiltrate German Intelligence center "Saturn" during and after the WWII.
