Young graffiti artist Tony and his friend Jockey jump-start an unexpected adventure on the streets of Grenoble, France, when they steal a car that's already occupied by an older man who's been sleeping in the back, Léon Marcel.

Thierry drops out of school to apprentice as a lion tamer at the zoo where he meets Roselyne, who shares his passion. They fall in love and when he loses his job, the young lovers journey across France finding odd jobs at several circuses. In Germany, they fall under the tutelage of ageing big cat trainer, Klint, and while they are closer to realising their dreams, they find that their success drivers them part.

A young French boy deals with the effects of war. Conflicts arise as his trusted neighbor and advisor is taken away by the Germans and the boy loses respect for his father, who tries to appease the German soldiers lodging in the family home.

June 1940. While the Germans advance inexorably on the French territory, the army is in full debacle. While the top brass played "sauve qui peut", a handful of French soldiers desperately resisted on the banks of the Loire. On one side, a company of Senegalese riflemen and a few French soldiers, on the other side, the armored tanks of the Wehrmarcht. An act with no real future, it was considered heroic by some and useless by others. But for their leader, Henri Dragance, there was no alternative but to resist or die.

Jean Cocteau (1889-1963), was a French poet, novelist, dramatist, designer, and filmmaker, whose versatility, unconventionality, and enormous output brought him international acclaim. As a leading member of the surrealist movement, he had a great influence on the work of others.

Jeanne Poisson, the headstrong, ambitious, witty and erudite, catches the eye and heart of French King Louis XV at a costumed ball. She masters the art of seduction well enough to become accepted even by the Queen, corpulent mother of ten. As a sensibly chosen Royal 'favorite' mistress she is soon ennobled Marquise of Pompadour to facilitate her introduction at court. The immature dauphin (crown prince) proves a bitter and unrelenting enemy, joined by his imposed Saxon bride, and his sister at her deathbed. Although friends at court help Pompadour return, her health gives way.
