A lowly but academically diligent warrior named Bessho Hikoshiro finds himself unable to move up in the world due to the stifling caste system of the Bakumatsu era. He meets his old class rival Enomoto Takeaki, now a commander of a naval ship, and is later told by a kindly noodle shop owner that Enomoto's rise in social status came about after he prayed at a shrine in Mukojima. Stumbling home drunk one night, Hikoshiro falls down a riverbank and comes across a small run-down shrine which he is convinced is affiliated to the one in Mukojima. Pressing his hands together in prayer, he unwittingly invites the unwanted attentions of the gods of poverty, pestilence and death..

A New Love in Tokyo

A look at the lives of two prostitutes in Tokyo: Rei, who works as an S&M dominatrix, and Ayumi, in the more straightforward profession of call girl. In addition to their working life, the film also looks at their private lives. Rei is acting in an amateur theatre company along with the receptionist from Ayumi's escort service, while Ayumi is living with her student-boyfriend as he struggles to finally get accepted to college.

Deep in the mountains of Japan a dam is scheduled to be built, thus forcing a relocation of the farmers. One of them is 78-year-old Denzo, whose son and his wife consider him senile. Left alone, he befriends a young boy, Sentaro, who has heard that the old man was once a great angler. The unlikely pair spend lots of happy time together, until Denzo has a heart attack and dies far upstream. The dam is completed and the entire area is inundated. Everyone will move away, except Denzo.

Red Miracle

Shown as the Akai Series 2005 last year, the remakes Akai Giwaku in June starring Ishihara Satomi and Akai Unmei in the fall season starring Ayase Haruka have received much acclaim. Hence this spring, Akai Kiseki will be broadcast as the 11th part in the series. Akai Kiseki revolves around the basic plot of a star in the female figure-skating world who falls in love with a youth who had killed someone in the past and portrays various trials and tribulations these star-crossed lovers have to go through to pursue their forbidden love. With the theme that "it is possible to illuminate one's life based on one's efforts," we launch this fresh modern installment of the Akai series. Fukada Kyoko is trying out figure-skating for the first time in this show, and be sure not to miss scenes where she appears in the skating costumes and gorgeous clothes.
