Gülizar secretly falls deeply in love with the teacher, İsmail. They eventually decide to marry. However, the teacher's death in an accident shatters Gülizar's world. Her fiancé returns to the village with the dowry money after some time. While Gülizar endures the immense pain of losing her beloved without being able to share it with anyone, she is forced to marry her fiancé. Yet Gülizar has become the woman of the young teacher she loves. Gülizar's father is caught between tradition and his daughter, as according to custom, her honor can only be cleansed by her death.

In a small Turkish town, two young tuberculous poets try to survive while publishing their poems. As they both fall in love, their life would never be the same.

Living on his own under a modest roof, Sami makes a living as a mural painter. One day, he learns that his doting grandmother has passed away and left him a small chest full of calligraphy materials. At first, Sami rather dismisses the contents of the chest, so much so that he even considers getting rid of them. But then he meets Selma at the library where he has been commissioned to do a mural, and the introduction marks a turning point for him. Selma, an attractive and dignified woman with the impeccable manners of an old Istanbul family, once took up calligraphy herself. With her guidance and encouragement, Sami embarks on learning the practice of calligraphy. He is helped in his endeavours by Esref Efendi, a gifted but demanding old-generation calligrapher, whose distaste for the present state of calligraphy has deterred him from taking on students for some time. And the master is quick to steer Sami towards love.

The story begins in a mental hospital and continues with Tahsin and Rıfat lying to the doctor that they are well and leaving the hospital. As soon as they leave the hospital, the two go to Rıfat's mother's house to surprise her. However, when they arrive home, they learn that the neighborhood is undergoing urban renewal and that, like everyone else, their mother has sold her house.
