Widely known in the village how miser Berta is. Gossip says, even when her husband passed away a year ago she tried to buy a second-hand coffin to get him buried in. She's in good physical condition compare to her age, but one day she just can't get out of her bed. The village council hire a mom of 3 in order to help her in and around the house, and she paid by the council as Berta act like she has no money. Once, when the young mom doing her bed she finds her secret savings there, and turns out she is a wealthy woman. Now the council, as she can not be on social, decides to use her savings to pay her help, of course without letting her know that.

Set in the 1890s on the Hungarian plains, a group of farm workers go on strike in which they face harsh reprisals and the reality of revolt, oppression, morality and violence.

András and Péter are two young men trying to make it big with their rock band in Budapest in the early 1980s. When the opportunity arises to attend the wedding of András's cousin in Transylvania, they decide to take it as a chance to raise some money. Once there, they embark on an unexpected adventure.

They drive along the Danube promenade, and on the concrete reinforcement of the demolished Budapest rondella hotel they get involved in a showdown of political background. In the burnt-down Sports Hall the waiters train for a last supper, Pepe and Kapa run around the big laid table with trays in their hands. While doing so, Pepe keeps crying out: "I am the best one, I am the most beautiful one, I am the king, I am the god..." Sitting in a boat on the Danube, a ship goes past them, and the Niagara falls, majestic and breathtaking, resound in their ears. Many veterans of the 1848 War of Independence in Hungary fought on the northern side. Experienced Fiala, Boldogh who struggles with homesickness and the reckless Vereczky all experience their enforced emigration in different ways and news of impending peace elicits different reactions from them all.
