An employee at the French Embassy in Bangkok invites his wife to join him – and enjoy the benefits of their open marriage.

Michel takes up pickpocketing on a lark and is arrested soon after. His mother dies shortly after his release, and despite the objections of his only friend, Jacques, and his mother's neighbor Jeanne, Michel teams up with a couple of petty thieves in order to improve his craft. With a police inspector keeping an eye on him, Michel also tries to get a straight job, but the temptation to steal is hard to resist.

Set in France during the mid-1970s, Vanessa, a former dancer, and her husband Roland, an American writer, travel the country together. They seem to be growing apart, but when they linger in one quiet, seaside town they begin to draw close to some of its more vibrant inhabitants, such as a local bar/café-keeper and a hotel owner.

Melancolie Mau is a lonely woman on the French seaside who falls victim to a horrific rape, but she manages to turn the tables and kill her attacker. She chooses not to tell anyone and dumps the body, but it comes back to haunt her when a U.S. colonel arrives, mysteriously armed with full knowledge about her ordeal. An artist grows hateful of commercial demands on his questionable talents when his friend and artist commits suicide. He puts the blame for his friend's death on an art critic and a shady art dealer. He is able to take out his frustrations on the pretentious critic at a party. When an elderly man moves into the boarding house, he brings a machine he invented that can make people realize their subconscious dreams...

A young student visits the home of a friend who has all the good looks, women and luck. Every day, through binoculars from his friend's window, he sees a young girl in front of her home. Although attractive, the woman's face has been badly scarred. He finds out her phone number and the two engage in pleasant conversation. He gets up enough nerve to ask to meet her in person, but the socially inept young man becomes paralyzed with fear. He again summons the courage to meet with her before he is plagued with fear once again.

Singapore. Following the mysterious disappearance of several Marines on leave, the U.S. Secret Service appoints young Art Smith to lead the investigation. Four volunteers decide to assist him in his dangerous undertaking, and prepare to act as bait for the kidnappers.
