This film takes a decidedly satirical look at the inner workings of the gangster underworld. Alfred Lowell is a washed-up actor sent to London to take care of some mob business. Alfred's mind is not on his job, as he prefers to probe his past for the reasons why he has failed as a thespian. He entertains thoughts of suicide, but his involvement in the gang prevents him from ending his life.

The story of a free-spirited girl who was born in the wrong place at the wrong time. Racing driver Jimmy meets French model Annette at the racetrack, who is working in Amsterdam for a while. A romantic relationship develops between the two, but they are unable to continue their mutual feelings of love. Annette realizes this first and feels compelled to return to Paris. Now that he no longer has Annette, Jimmy loses control of himself, which makes him unsuitable for his work as a racing driver.

Sherlock Jones is a handyman, a nice man who dreams of doing great things. Together with his dog Watson, he becomes involved in the case of the Karthoum diamond. This legendary stone arrives in the Netherlands to be cut and polished. The mafia attempts to steal the diamond during its transport from Schiphol Airport. They ensure that all security measures are checked by the 'renowned' private detective, because they know he will have no idea what is going on. The robbery is a great success. It's a good thing Watson is there too...

The mayor receives a letter from America, addressed to the village illiterate, in which his brother writes that he wants to be buried in the Netherlands. People believe that the American is rich and want to make plans for the restoration of the café and the rectory, and the construction of a new cemetery. The mayor also wants the nearby gypsies to move to the designated spot, and the teacher's daughter wants more freedom. Because the doctor is the smartest person in the village, he can get everyone to do what he wants.

Small-town doctor Angelino falls in love at first sight with schoolteacher Irene. Bram the Builder is in love with gypsy girl Katja. Neither of the two men know how to convey their feelings to the objects of their affection.
